This past March, I had the pleasure of attending The UBC Finance Club Investment Banking Competition. The competition as a whole was a wonderful experience; the level of insight and careful planning that went into the development of the conference was remarkable.
The competition provided participants with an opportunity to discuss and explore the complexities of corporate finance. The case itself was very challenging, requiring team members to sift through countless pages of information and produce a logical solution to the proposed financing dilemma. The judging was also quite difficult and not for the faint of heart as seasoned investment bankers tested one’s knowledge of the case down to smallest detail. A sound understanding of financial concepts is not enough to win the case, effective public speaking and presentation skills are also crucial.
Overall, this is a must-attend event for anyone serious about corporate finance. The competition provided me with a new perspective towards my educational pursuits, and hopefully it will for you as well.
